It’s a new year and T60 Venture Scouts were ready to get out of town and into the snow.
On the way up to Bear Valley they talked about the fresh air, familiar smell of pine trees, and camp fires.
They talked about how much fun was had last Summer at Philmont and if this summers epic HST adventure would surpass last years experience of a lifetime.
They tried to carry a tune but the only song they remember was Philmont hymm and 2 ooo-night (philmont joke).
In my mind, Snow Camping is the most demanding outing Venture scouts go on, it requires 3 hr class, a test, snow equipment, and lots of exertion to build a shelter they will spend the night in.
We do Snow Shoeing the week before to make sure the boys have the equipment and practice constructing a shelter. It’s a great outing to see what not to do the next time, some of the items they should remember are; to bring chemical gloves, chocolate, socks, sunscreen and stay dry.
We have close to 20 scouts and adults committed to going next week, it should be a great time for all
Catch up with you soon,
